Sinclair: We are all after a threepeat

- Scott McDermott

It will be hailed by many as second only to the Lisbon Lions’ European Cup win 50 years ago. An Invincible Treble.

But Celtic hero Scott Sinclair insists the only thing Brendan Rodgers’ side can do to top their achievement – is to do it AGAIN next season.

The Hoops winger was in dreamland at Hampden yesterday as Celtic secured their third trophy of the season by lifting the Scottish Cup.

Tom Rogic’s last gasp winner against Aberdeen sent the Celtic faithful into a state of delirium and cemented this team’s place in Parkhead history.

Sinclair, Scotland’s Player of the Year this term, savoured their success after the 2-1 victory over the Dons.

But as he reflected on a terrific first season at Celtic, the Englishman says they want to emulate it by doing backto-back Trebles for the first time in their history.

If Rodgers keeps this team together, the ex-Man City man is convinced they can embark on another memorable campaign – and make their mark in the Champions League.

He said: “When Tom’s shot hit the net at the end it was an unbelievable feeling, especially with what was at stake today.

“We set out to do the Treble at the start of the season and we did it.

“It was the perfect end to the perfect season. We’ve gone unbeaten, we’ve won a Treble but we have to build on that now.

“How do we do that? By doing it again! We also need to improve in the Champions League.

“We want to get out of the group stage and progress further in the competition. We want to do better than we did this year.

“That’s the challenge for the boys now, to compete in Europe. We have to build on what we’ve achieved.

“When we come back, we have to get into the Champions League and progress.”

Sinclair has gone from being on the periphery with Championship outfit Aston Villa to a Hoops hero with an unbeaten treble.

In the week of the Lisbon Lions’ 50th anniversary, the wide man said: “This season has turned out much better than I ever expected. I came up here to be happy and enjoy my football.

“There’s nothing better than winning trophies and personal awards along the way.

“The Lisbon Lions are legends but hopefully this team can keep building as well. You never know what we might achieve.

“To go a season unbeaten and lift three trophies – I don’t know if we’ll see that again.

“We can retire now! We still have a lot to learn.

“We still want to get better and improve in Europe.”
