Good food and beer to cheer about? You just have to Czech this joint out

-

You might get funny looks when people ask where you’re off to and you respond “Strip Joint”.

But it is, in fact, a cool new bar in Glasgow’s t rendy Finnieston district.

Despite the name, Strip Joint’s a family- friendly venue that allows children to top their own pizza right at their table.

Located just a five-minute walk from the Hydro and SECC, it is popular with gig-goers.

Booking a table in advance is advisable, although after being told we’d have an hour’s wait, we were seated quite quickly.

The place was buzzing and, despite being mobbed, the service was quick and friendly.

Strip Joint is at the forefront of a relatively new UK craze of offering tank beer. Tankovnas are a bar staple of th e Cz e ch Repub li c , where they cer ta inly k n ow a thing or two about pouring a perfect pint.

While processed beers can fester for months, Strip Joint’s Krusovice tank beer arrives fresh from the brewery and must be consumed within five to seven days.

The 880- pint copper tank dominates the bar area and the frothy pints went down a treat.

There’s a great selection of drinks and the music rocks. Sadly, after the perfect start, our night went a little on the slide.

The burgers sounded mouthwatering on the menu – but looked a bit stingy when we saw them served at tables near us.

Strip Joint’s speciality is pizza. However, we had no complaints about the rib eye and sirloin steaks we ordered, although the sides were just average fare.

The biggest disappointment was the place totally emptied come 7.15pm. A packed bar, sizzling with atmosphere, was deserted, while other nearby pubs remained busy. But Strip Joint’s still worth a gander.
