Machete victim gets out of coma

-

Butchered crime kingpin Steven “Bonzo” Daniel is out of a coma – a month after he was attacked by a machete gang.

The 37- year- old was targeted by at least three men and his injuries were so serious police thought he had been shot in the face.

Daniel – nephew of dead gangster Jamie Daniel – suffered wounds to his nose, mouth and an eye. A source said his tongue had been “shredded” in the ambush.

His family have stopped associates from visiting him in Glasgow’s Queen El i zabeth Universit y Hospital but Daniel was brought out of a medically induced coma last week.

Medical staff are amazed he survived the attack. His condition is stable but he is expected to spend weeks in hospital.

A source said: “It was touch and go for Bonzo. Doctors put him in a coma because they thought it would be easier to treat him if he was unconscious.

“The attack was extremely violent and it has affected his entire family. They’re distraught at his injuries.”

The ambush was the latest incident in a violent war between the Daniel clan and the Lyons crime group, headed by Steven Lyons.

Daniel, who is linked to the Key Cars private hire firm, was behind the wheel of one of their vehicles on May 18 when he was chased by men in an Audi and a VW Golf. He was trapped on a slip road near the M8 in Glasgow before they launched their attack.
