Murray’s tattoo is all right with mum

-

Judy Murray has received backing for her new tattoo…from her mum.

The tennis coach, 57, revealed she had her first inking last week – a black spider at the base of her neck.

She said it was inspired by the story of Robert the Bruce deciding to continue his struggle against England after watching a spider spinning its web “try, try and try again”.

Judy’s mum Shirley Erskine, 82, said she only learned about her daughter’s tattoo when she saw her appear on The One Show.

But she admitted she is looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

Shirley, who was at a tennis event at Gleneagles with husband Roy, said: “She didn’t tell us, but it’s fun.

“It’s just the sort of thing she would enjoy doing.”

Shirley said she no longer gets nervous when her grandsons Andy and Jamie Murray play at Wimbledon.

She said: “Roy does, but I’m not so much these days.”

Judy, whose autobiography Knowing the Score came out on Thursday, said she had always wanted a tattoo.

She added :“I finished the book off with a little epilogue that has the story of Robert the Bruce.

“He’s watching this little spider trying to create its web and failing and failing.

“Eventually she makes it and it’s the whole thing of, ‘If at first you don’t succeed, try, try and try again’.

“I think that’s the story of the book.”
