Nolan sis Anne bids for role on cobbles

-

Anne Nolan is in talks with Coronation Street about becoming a soap star – just like her late sister Bernie.

The singer, 66, did a script reading for the casting director and sources say she’s now waiting for the right role to come up.

Bernie, who died from breast cancer at the age of 52 in 2013, made her name as an actress in Brookside and then The Bill.

A source said: “Anne and her whole family are massive Corrie fans and she was really excited to be invited to the soap on the back of her acting videos.

“She’s wait ing to be called back when the right role and storyline come along. The dream would be a long-term role but she’d be delighted with a short stint.”

Anne added: “If a suitable role came up, I would be over the moon and jump at the opportunity. Who wouldn’t? Corrie is our most treasured soap and to be part of such an iconic production would be fabulous.”

Anne is better known for being part of girl group The Nolans, who were a success in the 70s and 80s with hits including I’m in the Mood for Dancing.

But she has appeared in panto and has other theatre work and two films on her CV.

A Corrie spokesman said: “As regularly happens when cast ing a ser ial drama like Coronation Street, actors come in for readings with no specific character in mind.

“Anne Nolan has been in to read for us but wasn’t seen for a particular role.”
