Midge hails gig for bomb victims

-

Midge Ure has revealed the One Love concert reminded him of Live Aid – and has hailed the music world for sticking two fingers up to terrorism.

The Band Aid and Live Aid co-founder loved watching Ariana Grande, Coldplay, Take That and Liam Gallagher unite for the Manchester bombing victims. Ultravox star Midge is preparing to embark on a 30-date UK tour – starting in Glasgow on his 64th birthday on October 10.

He said: “I’m not worried about terrorism at all. I lived in London during the 70s and 80s when bits of the city were getting blown up and it didn’t stop anybody doing what they were doing then. Life goes on. You can’t cower in the house.

“I was sitting watching the One Love concert thinking, ‘I’m connected here.’ Maybe a concert like that, using music for good, is directly connected to what we did back in 1984 with Band Aid and Live Aid. I thought it was the perfect response to terrorism.”

Dad- of- four Midge, who was born in Cambuslang, wrote the UK’s secondbiggest- sel l ing single Do They Know It’s Christmas? with Bob Geldof in 1984.
