PoW hero honoured
The hero who spearheaded the Great Escape is to be honoured with a plaque at the spot in Germany where he was killed.
Squadron Leader Roger Bushell was shot on direct orders from Adolf Hitler on March 29, 1944.
The South African-born pilot had already escaped twice when he was sent to the Stalag Luft III camp.
He masterminded the escape of 76 PoWs dramatised on film, where Bushell was played by Richard Attenborough.
