A £1.2bn taste for Scotland

Food and drink exports from Scotland have grown by 11 per cent in a year.

Food and drink worth £1.2billion was exported in the first three months of 2017, up £124million.

S cot ch wh i sk y a nd Scottish salmon topped the UK export chart, making up 22 per cent of the UK’s food and drink exports.

Whisky was the highest value export, up £79million at £ 875.8million. Scottish exports to the EU rose by £50million overall.

Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing said: “Maintainin­g access to the single market is crucial.”

UK counterpar­t Michael Gove said the Tories will use Brexit “to develop new trade relationsh­ips” that benefit Scottish food producers.
