Apple sours Jag Lindsay’s offer of a place at Oxford
Partick Thistle defender Liam Lindsay has snubbed a switch to Oxford United because boss Michael Appleton could be set to quit.
Appleton has been linked with a move to Premier League club Leicester City to become assistant manager to Craig Shakespeare.
And that has spooked Lindsay who had travelled south to have talks with the English League One side. Oxford Cup – and there is no better trophy to win in the world. I’m really looking forward to it all.”
Kane’s incredible rise has prompted Southgate to make the 23-year-old his captain and he has now scored 65 goals for his club in the last two seasons.
Af ter breaking his year- long international drought with an injury-time equaliser in last weekend’s World Cup qualifying draw with Gordon Strachan’s side, he followed that up with a brace in the 3-2 friendly defeat in France.
Twelve months ago, Kane was at the Euros. He returned from France sharing England’s humiliation of a last-16 exit at the hands of Iceland.
But he insists the Three Lions are on an upward curve under Southgate.
Kane said: “The group we’ve got, and the manager and the staff, are all heading in the right direction.
“It’s just little building blocks in place for Russia. We’re a confident group.
“We’ve got more than enough talent to win the World Cup – it’s just about finding a way to do it.” had a bid worth an initial £ 300,000 accepted by the Jags last week.
But Lindsay, who scored seven goals in 42 appearances last season, is understood to be content to stay put at Firhill for now.
However, English Championship side Barnsley could swoop in for the highlyrated 21-year-old. They have made an official approach to Thistle and would be able to match the fee.
