Hayes: I’ll be a Champ

-

atmosphere of Champions League nights at Celtic Park.

“I’m delighted. It has been in the pipeline for a little while now but I’m pleased to finally get here and can’t wait to get started.”

Hayes nearly derailed the Hoops’ unbeaten domestic Treble, scoring the Dons goal in the 2-1 Scottish Cup Final defeat by Celtic.

And he admits he was jealous of the joyous scenes as the Hoops celebrated.

Speaking to Celt ic’s website, he said: “It was hard seeing all the celebrations and all the stuff on social media – you want that for yourself and to be part of it.

“Now it’s my chance and hopefully I can create my own little bit of history.”

Hayes also took to Twitter to thank the Aberdeen fans for their backing in his five years at Pittodrie.

And he has donated funds to replace any Dons home kits for next season that have been bought with his name and number on them.

He tweeted: “Biggest thank you goes to every Aberdeen fan for the way myself and my family have been treated.

“I know there’s a few who won’t approve of me signing for Celtic but it was a career opportunity that could not be turned down.

“It was the only Scottish club I could leave for.”
