Roar of approval for rugby star

-

Scotland rugby legend Doddie Weir is a towering 6ft 6in tall but he’s never been a bigger man than he became last week.

Revealing to the world that he is suffering from motor neurone disease to highlight MND Awareness day took real guts.

The former British and Irish Lion pledged to work with researchers at the University of Edinburgh to find better therapies as well as fundraising and supporting sufferers.

If ever there was a highprofile announcement designed for the benefit of a cause, not an individual, this was it. The randomness of this condition leaves us all a little fearful. Who knows what’s ahead for any of us?

But dad-of-three Doddie, 46, has an insight into his own future. He knows it is inexorably altered and he is choosing to spend it helping others. What a true hero.
