Skids star Stu and I were pals to the end

The Skids’ frontman Richard Jobson has revealed that he remained friends with bandmate Stuart Adamson until his death 16 years ago.

Stuar t was a fel low founding member of the Fife teenage punk outfit, leaving soon after The Absolute Game was released in 1980.

He went on to found Big Country and took his own life in a Hawaii hotel in 2001.

Richard told 7Nights: “He had a dark side but he was also a funny guy and loved the fans.

“Even after we split up we retained that friendship.

“People think we had an acrimoniou­s break but it wasn’t, we were just going in different directions.”

The Skids have been invited to support Green Day at Bellahoust­on Park in Glasgow on July 4.

The American band are fans of the Skids and covered The Saints Are Coming, along with U2, in 2006.

Richard said: “They invited me to Abbey Road studios to watch them.

“I wrote that song aged 16 in Dunfermlin­e library, so to sit with two of the biggest rock’n’roll bands on the planet covering it was amazing.”
