Judy My big game anxiety is painful

-

Judy Murray says her sons’ big matches make her so nervous she feels like she’s having a heart attack.

Tennis coach Judy, 57, even tries to avoid Andy and Jamie in the run- up to crunch matches because she gets so anxious.

She said: “Grand slam f inals are very diff icult because you’re in absolute inner turmoil.

“It’s like a heart attack and severe nausea all at the same time, and it’s a really horrible feeling.

“I try to stay away from the boys on big final days simply because I don’t want them picking up my anxiety before the match.

“It’s not an easy thing to hide and your kids know you inside out, in the same way you know them inside out.”

Judy, who won 64 Scottish t it les dur ing her own playing career, has also revealed she enjoys treating herself now she is financially secure.

She said: “Now I have money, I can do the things I was never able to do.

“I have more time for mysel f . I love going shopping, buying nice clothes. Most of my life I lived in a tracksuit and a hoodie.

“For many years, all my resources were going into trying to help the boys do what they wanted, so there was never any available money for treats or holidays.

“It didn’t bother me ever, because it was never really my priority, but now it’s quite nice to be able to do some of the things that I couldn’t back then.”
