Women end war with SFA

-

The Scottish women’s team have made peace with the SFA – just three weeks before the start of Euro 2017.

MailSport exclusively revealed last week that Anna Signeul’s squad had withdrawn al l co- operat ion, other than playing, with Hampden chiefs ahead of the finals in Holland.

But the dispute, which centred on a fight for parity with Gordon Strachan’s men’s team when it came to rewards, has now been resolved after talks.

A statement from the Scottish women’s team said: “This is a historic moment as it is the first ever col lective agreement between the Scottish women’s team and the SFA.

“It is a major step towards achieving equality and parity between the men’s and women’s game at all levels.

“We are looking forward to working closely with the SFA to promote and develop women’s football in Scotland.

“The players fully accept we have a responsibility to perform to our best for our country on the pitch but also to be the best role models we can off it.

“For many years we have worked hard to do so, especially at grassroots level where we are honoured to be asked to engage with young female players.

“We want to ensure there is a full and proper commitment by the governing body to promoting the women’s game.

“We can now look forward with great excitement to Euro 2017, Scotland’s first appearance at a major senior tournament.

“Finally, we would like to thank PFA Scotland for their unwavering support.”
