Scot Stef Reid admitted she feared being typecast as a runner- up before landi ng gold in t he World Para Athletics Championships in London.

After bagging silver at the last two Paralympic Games, her success was a decade in the making as she snared the T44 long jump title.

And it was worth the wait for the 32-year- old, whose 5.40 metre jump was enough to see off Holland’s Marlene van Gansewinkel and Maya Nakanishi of Japan.

Reid said: “It’s satisfying. Even with the best plans in the world it doesn’t always go right. But I’ve done it.”

Even after helping to draw up the rule book for the championships in her role as a board member, Reid refused to curb her joy as she dodged officials to jump into the crowd to embrace her family and friends.

Reid said: “I saw my mum and jumped over the barrier. All the board members were there and I thought: ‘ I’m getting an email about this.’” England are staring at defeat in the second Test against South Africa af ter the tourists took control at Trent Bridge.
