Prison source says serial killer has just months to live

Ex-cop tells how Sinclair nearly confessed to crimes The detective who nailed Angus Sinclair has urged the serial killer to confess to other murders – amid claims he only has months to live.

World’s End murderer Sinclair is unable to walk and eat properly after a series of strokes left him bedridden.

Prison sources say his condition has deteriorated rapidly and he is showing no signs of recovering.

An insider described the 72-yearold as “skeletal” and said his only nutrition is liquids taken through a baby cup.

Sinclair is one of the country’s longest- serving prisoners, having been in jail continually since 1982.

He is serving life sentences for the murders of teenagers Helen Scott and Christine Eadie in Edinburgh and Mary Gallacher in Glasgow. And he was previously behind bars for killing eightyear-old Catherine Reehill in Glasgow.

But he is also suspected of murdering Frances Barker, 37, Hilda McAuley, 36, Agnes Cooney, 23, and Anna Kenny, 20, all in Glasgow.

Retired Detective Superindendent Joe Jackson has told the predator to open up about his involvement in the unsolved cases before he dies.

The 77-year-old revealed Sinclair almost confessed to a string of sexual assaults before clamming up while being quizzed at Gorbals Police Office in Glasgow.

Sinclair told off icers: “I’ve done so many, I can’t remember them all. I could’ve done 50, I just don’t know.

“If you can find out where and when, I’ll tell you whether I did them or not.”

Jackson said yesterday: “He should do the decent thing and confess before he dies and bring some peace to the families of his victims.

“This man told me he had committed any number of crimes and would tell me about them if I asked.

“There are other unsolved crimes out there which he has been linked to and now’s the time for him to talk.

“He committed his first murder at 16 and it’s difficult to believe he didn’t go on to commit more than he’s been convicted of.

“This could be the last chance for him to do the right thing.”

Jackson, who retired 25 years ago, is a former head of Strathclyde Serious Crime Squad and Govan CID in Glasgow.

He arrested Sinclair for the rape of 11 girls, aged six to 14, for which he got a life sentence.

females and urged them to quiz him about other similar unsolved crimes. However, his advice was ignored.

The former police chief added: “I think he realised he made a mistake in opening up to me at the time and hasn’t repeated it.

“But if he has any humanity, he’ll confess to the terrible things he’s done.”

Sinclair has suffered a series of strokes since 2014 and is under constant medical at tention in Glenochil prison, Clackmannanshire.

A source at the jail said: “Sinclair is now deteriorating rapidly.

“He eats only wet food, drinks from a plastic cup like a baby’s bottle and is spoon-fed his meds.

“It would be a tragic thing to see if it was someone other than him.

“Nurses visit three times daily and he’ll be lucky to see the end of the year.”

Sinclair raped and strangled Helen and Christine, both 17, after a night out at the World’s End pub in 1977.

In November 2014, the case saw him become the first person in Scotland to be re-tried for the same crime after a previous acquittal.

Sinclair was sentenced to a minimum 37 years inn jail. It’s the longestngest term in Scottishottish legal historyy – and the same number of years thehe girls’ families waited to get justice.e.

It means he’ll not become eligible for parole until he is 106.

Sinclair challenged the sentence but his appeal was rejected last year.

Our prison source added: “Sinclair is now skin and bones. He can’t walk from his bed to the toilet unaided.

“He used to have a walking frame but now has a wheelchair.

“He knows when he’s being spokenn to, and it’s believed he knows what’ss being asked of him, but that’s about itt – he’s incapable of doing most things.s.

“Sinclair has an alarm on his wristt which he can activate if he falls overr or wants assistance.

“People do not relish having to o attend to him but they have a duty y of care. He still has an evil look inn his eyes.”
