Caravan holiday to celebrate £2m win
A Brit who has won £2million on the poker tables in Las Vegas is planning to celebrate by going on a caravan holiday in Yorkshire.
John Hesp, 64, took the gambling world by storm with his garish outfits and cheeky humour during the World Series tournament.
He normally wagers £10 a time at Napoleon’s Casino in Hull, where fellow players say he is known for not having a “poker face”.
But over the past week, John took on the best players on the planet for a top prize of £7million.
He was one of 7221 par ticipants who paid $10,000 each to enter the prestigious event – and landed his big prize by finishing fourth.
John, from Bridlington, Yorkshire, said: “I’ve lived the dream. I have absolutely loved it.”
The colourful caravan salesman has been credited with a sharp increase in TV ratings for the tournament – but ruled out turning pro.
He said: “The truth is I love Bridlington and going to work there and being with my wife Mandy. I could not be away from her and my family for months on end playing in tournaments.”
John, who is looking forward to a caravan holiday with his wife and their grandchildren, added: “You can be the most financially wealthy person in the world but not be as rich as I am with my family.”
Mandy added: “We’ll have a party when we get back home but after that life will not change.”
