Hop on board for great grub, super service and warm welcome for dogs

-

On a high after a fabulous day out at the Museum of Flight in East Fortune, we arrived in North Berwick tired, hungry and full of the summer joys.

Driving through the seaside town, we spotted a bunch of shiny, happy people laughing and joking on the terrace of a traditional-style pub.

Determined to have a slice of what they were having, we parked up and made a beeline for the bustling watering hole.

It was a decision well made as, from the moment we set foot inside the door, we were buoyed up by the cheerful ambience and friendly and helpful staff.

The lively beer garden was full of locals and tourists enjoying a drink in the sunshine, while the indoor crowd chat ted and cheered on golfers in the Scottish Open. With our two tiny terrors corralled in a booth and engrossed in finding Nemo on the kids’ activity menu, we were able to sit back with a glass of prosecco and savour the atmosphere.

The service was so fast that our food arrived before a single tantrum took place and there was 20 minutes of blessed silence as the boys polished off everything on their plates.

The menu was full of tempting dishes but, on a sunny day at the seaside, it would be rude not to sample the fish and chips – and we were not disappointed.

The fish was fresh, tasty and perfectly cooked – encased in a fantastic, crunchy, melt-in-themouth batter.

We were served by a lovely lady who took time to chat to the boys about their trip to the museum.

The highlight for the kids was the array of pooches they got to meet. The Ship Inn is the most dog-friendly pub we have come across – providing water, biscuits and a scratch behind the ear for all their canine clientele.

They even run a dog- of-the month competition on Facebook with the winner securing their owner a meal-for-two in the pub.

We were sad to say goodbye to this wee gem of a bar and we’ve already made plans to go back.
