A mum whose jealous ex- boyfriend sliced her face open with a knife has revealed she suffers flashbacks from the night she was attacked.
Violent Matthew Grady got a taxi to Siobhan Stevenson’s home armed with two knives.
He left the cab’s meter running as he kicked in the front door and cut her face from ear to mouth – leaving her with horrific injuries and scarred for life.
Following a two- day trial at the High Court in Glasgow last month, it took a jury took less than an hour to convict Grady of attempted murder.
The 30-year- old, from Maryhill, Glasgow, last week returned to the dock where he was jailed for 10 years with two years’ supervision after he is released.
Siobhan said she would now finally be able to get a night’s sleep knowing he was locked up.
But the 23-year-old revealed she had been hoping her attacker would get a longer jail sentence.
She said: “I’m so glad I can finally put this behind me. I still have f lashbacks when I look into the mirror and see him standing behind me in the hallway with two knives, threatening to kill me.
“I wish he was locked up for life. It’s the only way I’ll ever feel completely safe.
“He’s dangerous and I don’t think he’ll change. But I feel I can finally sleep at night knowing he’s in prison.”
It emerged during the trial that Grady already had a criminal past – but the details were not revealed.
The attack happened after Siobhan, who had been dating Grady ffor eighth months, broke off their relationship after she suspected he had cheated on her with her former friend.
The mum refused to rekindle their relationship, which sparked a series of angry phone calls and the attack.
Siobhan said: “Matthew was lovely at first but he became very controlling and began to get violent.
“I just wanted out. So when he told me during an argument that he had cheated on me, I knew it was over.
“When I told him I didn’t want him back, he was furious.”
The court heard Grady had kicked in Siobhan’s door in Glasgow on January 29 and ran towards her brandishing two knives, shouting: “I’m slitting your throat.”
Siobhan tried to hide in the bathroom but he stuck his foot in the door and hacked at her, injuring her shoulder. She crawled into her daughter’s bedroom to try to escape.
