Saints dumped me while I was crocked
Jamie Adams is well aware football is a cut-throat business.
But he still believes St Johnstone could have cut him some slack before they ruthlessly ditched him due to a career-threatening injury.
When the Ayr United defender was crocked in 2012, the Perth club discarded him the minute his contract expired.
Adams wasn’t looking for any preferential treatment but even now he feels Saints could have treated him better before he was dumped on the scrapheap.
The 29-year-old, who had played in the Europa League for the McDiarmid Park side, said: “I had two years with Derek McInnes at St Johnstone and I was in and out of the team.
“But when Steve Lomas came in I got another year and played in Europe for the club. That was a really good time but it was after that I got the back injury.
“Tommy Wright came in and I understand that clubs can’t afford to stand by injured players now – that’s modern football.
“The club and the manager need players to be fit. Otherwise they’re no use to them. I was injured so they weren’t that interested. They wanted me out to get someone else in.
“From the club’s point of view, that’s understandable.
“But as a player you hope you will be supported a little bit more.
“At that time I wasn’t and there was nothing I could do.”
