VW face fight over diesel cars fix

-

Volkswagen face the biggest class action in Scottish legal history after the Dieselgate emissions scandal, a lawyer has warned.

One legal firm alone say they have in excess of 1250 cases on their books.

The development comes as a documentary revealed VW owners have reported problems after having the “fix” for the emissions cheat carried out.

Patr ick McGui re, of Thompsons solicitors, said: “Volkswagen got it wrong and now they’re just making it worse.

“We’re being told by clients they’re getting the fix and saying to themselves, ‘Hold on a minute, this isn’t the car I bought’.

“One west of Scotland driver informed us he has had three power outages in a week after getting it done.”

He added: “VW want to let this all fizzle out, let the cars change hands two or three times and let people’s anger subside.

“There’s no prospect of that happening.

“We have in excess of 1250 cases – and we will be aiming to get test cases into court this year.

“Unless VW change their attitude, this will be the largest civil class action in the history of the Scottish court system.”

VW used a so- cal led emissions test “defeat device” to claim the cars had better green credentials than was actually the case.

A multibil l ion- dollar settlement has been agreed with US owners.

We told last year how VW’s boss Matthias Mul ler rejected calls to compensate European buyers in the same way.

McGuire addded: “There’s no doubt that Scottish drivers’ claims are valid.”

A VW spokesman said: “We’ l l robustly defend any l it igat ion brought against us in the UK in respect of the issue.”
