Boxing ace Khan I am gutted and haven’t slept since split with my wife
Boxer Amir Khan was last night struggling with the breakdown of his marriage, confessing: “I’m gutted.”
The former light heavyweight champion – who traded blows with his wife, Faryal Makhdoom, in an hour-long Twitter spat – was left heartbroken af ter announcing their split.
Just hours af ter accusing Faryal of “moving on” with world heavyweight champ A nthony Joshua, 27, he said: “I haven’t slept all night.”
He spent the night being comforted by pals in Dubai’s exclusive marina – a regular haunt for ex-Premier League players Steven Gerrard, Ryan Giggs and John Terry. After arriving back at 11.30am, he locked himself away in his luxury apartment for the day. But he said: “I’m gutted. I’ve not slept all night.
“I went to see some people at the marina and I’ve been up all night. I need time to think.”
On Friday night, Khan took to Twitter to announce the end of his marriage to Faryal, who he tied the knot with in 2013.
After an astonishing war of words, Faryal suggested their social media accounts had been hacked.
But in Snapchat video, Khan said: “Everything you’ve seen on social media today is real.
“Me and Faryal have decided to move on, well I’ve decided to walk away. Nothing has been hacked.”
Khan and Faryal’s marriage has been plagued by a bitter family feud which erupted after she posted what his family claimed was a “naked” selfie on Instagram.
Khan’s Muslim parents were said to be disappointed by the image but Faryal took to social media to blast her in-laws and claim they were abusing her.
She accused her mother-inlaw, Falak Khan, of trying to break them up when she was pregnant with their daughter Lamysa, now three. She said: “When you force your son to divorce his wife when she’s nine months pregnant!!!
“And your son doesn’t … and he sticks besides his wife. He’s called a p***y?”
Despite the rows, Khan stood by his wife and cut ties with his family. Last night a source said: “Amir gave up so much to try to make it work with his wife, now it looks like he has nothing.
“He’s heartbroken. A lot of things are said on social media but it’s not how he wanted it to come out.”
The couple had been in Dubai for Faryal’s birthday last week. It’s understood she flew back to London on Thursday and hasn’t returned to their Bolton home.
Khan, worth £23million, has allegedly told pals: “We’re done. I’ve had enough.”
