Ryanair in sales pressure claims
Budget airline Ryanair are forcing cabin crew to use pushy sales techniques on flights to meet targets – or face disciplinary action, it’s been claimed.
The airline have been slammed for bringing in scratch cards that have only an est imated one in 1.1billion chance of winning the jackpot.
Now cabin crew say they have been threatened with punishments, such as being moved to different bases or facing disciplinary meetings if sales figures are not met.
In a recent memo, crew were ordered they “must sell everyday: one perfume, one meal deal and one item of fresh food and eight scratch cards per crew member.”
It warned “the above sales will be closely monitored” and those “not reaching their targets daily will be met with by their supervisor and further action taken.”
The memo is the latest issued by the company, who announced an annual profit of £1.1billion in May.
Another message to staff based in Barcelona – ranked bottom for onboard sales – threatened to move “crew membe rs who we r e c onsi s t ent l y under - performing”.
A Ryanair spokesman refused to comment on the staff letters but said: “There is no ‘pressure’ on crew.
“Crew are incentivised to sell ancillary products on board and are rewarded with sales bonuses.
“The sa fe t y of ou r customers, people and aircraft comes before all other considerations, including sales.”
