OAP claims former SNP star preyed on vulnerable people

-

“I believe she should have had some form of consequence. The difference to us was a lot of money. It sticks in my throat to this day. after we had thrown it away. I’m sorry now that I didn’t keep more paperwork.” All the transactions under investigation were linked to Thomson and M& F Property, who she ran with business partner Frank Gilbride. One of the deals probed saw Thomson allegedly buy a flat in Edinburgh and sell it to her husband the same day at a £29,400 profit. It was claimed that another deal saw Thomson make a £ 25,000 profit by sel l ing a Glasgow property on the same day she bought it.

The Crown Office last week said there was an “absence” of credible evidence to charge her with fraud almost two years after police inquiries began.

Thomson was one of five people named in a police report to prosecutors last year.

She has always denied any wrongdoing.

Thomson, 52, was elected SNP MP for Edinburgh West in 2015 but left the party over the claims.

In September, it emerged that the SNP’s ruling executive were under pressure from the party’s Westminster group to reinstate Thomson.

They said she was a loyal MP and had been denied justice.

An SNP spokesman said yesterday: “Ms Thomson took a dignified approach during the investigation.

“She’ll be relieved to put this affair behind her and we wish her well for the future.”

The Sunday Mai l tried to contact Thomson at her home by phone.

A male family member said she was not avai lable for comment.

Thomson did not respond to our call.

I wish that we had never sold our flat to her
