Trial just a game for killer Brady

-

Sick Ian Brady played games of hangman with Myra Hindley in court, it has emerged.

Letters kept secret for more than 50 years reveal the pai r also amused themselves with games of noughts and crosses while st i f l ing lau ght er a t “ridiculous” evidence.

The letters, which were written in the 1960s by Moors murderer Brady to his mother Peggy from a remand cel l, show his contempt for the justice system.

And they conf irm his of f hand at t i tude to punishment, saying that a life sentence is of “little consequence”.

The letters have just been made public under Freedom of Informat ion laws following his death at the age of 79 in May.

In them, Brady told of playing games with Hindley when they were in court for a committal hearing in 1965.

Brady, who with Hindley murdered five youngsters aged 10 to 17 in and around Manchester between 1963 and 1965, wrote of their looming trial: “Myra and I are still in excellent spirits and we’ve started to prepare seriously for the coming farce, though neither of us are losing any sleep.”

Brady, who addresses Peggy as “Dear Ma” but also occasionally verbally abuses her, moans about books and food that she has brought him.

He also whines to his mother about a “lukewarm” radiator in his cell and missing out on good TV programmes.
