Burnley captain Tom Heaton insists the Clarets will miss Joey Barton this season.

The midfield bad boy was suspended for 18 months in April – recently reduced to 13 months – and fined £30,000 for violating FA gambling rules after placing 1,260 bets on football games.

Rangers flop Barton is free to play from June 1 next year but his Burnley career is over.

That has left England keeper He a t on counting the cost in terms of 34-year- old Barton’s experience.

He said: “I can only talk about Joey in terms of what he brought to the club. He was brilliant on and off the pitch.

“I can’t speak highly enough of him. He’ll be a loss to the team.” Manchester City have told Swansea they will have to pay £ 13million to bring back Wilfried Bony after rejecting their opening bid.

The Swans made a £10m offer for the man they sold to City for £25m two years ago. Brighton are set to take Everton reject Oumar Niasse on loan with a view to a £10m deal. Crystal Palace gaffer Fr a nk de Boer is hot on the trail of Anderlecht defender Kara Mbodji.

The Se n e g a l international is in a simi lar mould to Mamadou Sakho, on loan at Palace last term. Jordan Pickford felt like a caged lion released into the wild when he finally made his Everton debut – and started with a clean sheet in Europe.

The England Under21 keeper, signed from Su n d e r l a nd for £30million, was a sub in the Europa League f i rst leg against Ruzomberok.

But Pickford played in the second leg as Everton edged through 2- 0 on aggregate in Slovakia. And he said: “I feel sharp now, so it was the right decision to keep me back.”
