Berwick pinch it

- Berwick .................3 Clyde ......................1

Liam Caddis’ superb overhead kick almost made it 2-2 but he was thwarted by the woodwork.

But Stirling weren’t to be denied in 54 minutes as Mor r ison f inished of f a great run with a cracking effort from a tight angle.

Mackay’s men were now dominant and deserved their winner in 82 minutes.

Sub Kavanagh bundled it home from close range to hand his side an opening day success.

S ten ny bos s Brown Ferguson said: “It was all about getting points on the board and we’ve not done that. We should have killed the game in the first half.” Berwick boss John Coughlin reckons his players pulled off a smash-and-grab act.

And he believes his shaky defence were lucky to lose only one goal as his frontmen pinched three.

Coughlin said: “To be fair to Clyde, 3-1 didn’t reflect the game, they were a lot better than that. It was a smashand-grab raid, no question.”

David Goodwillie fired the Bully Wee into the lead after 23 minutes lead but Andy Irving levelled with a sweet left-foot shot just before the break. And Berwick took the lead in 83 minutes when Aaron Murrell prodded home from close range before Irving added a third.

Clyde boss Jim Chapman said: “We didn’t take our chances and Berwick did. They only had three shots at goal and scored with them all. Their goalkeeper was man of the match and that also tells the story.”
