what reports are submitted. I like Robertson as a ref and at half-time he said he didn’t really see much of it. He had to go on his assistant’s decision.”

Peter Houston agreed, saying: “James was having a go at the linesman and I said something to him.

“Then my goalie coach got involved – but dugouts fall out all the time.”

Falkirk were ahead in two minutes through Nathan Austin but Stelios Demetriou levelled then second-half goals from Cammy Smith and Gavin Reilly gave Saints a fantastic win.

Bairns ended with 10 men after Aaron Muirhead was sent off for catching Demetriou with a flying elbow.

Ross said: “We finished last season so well and there is optimism around the club. It’s nice to keep the feeling going because there is a different vibe now.”

Falkirk were ahead when Austin’s glancing header crossed the line before Craig Samson pawed the ball away.

Saints levelled when Demetriou met Reilly’s cross to drive a low left-foot shot into the right corner.

Saints then turned the game on its head when they caught Falkirk cold inside the first two minutes of the second half.

Robbie Thomson flapped at Reilly’s cross and knocked the ball into the path of Smith who fired home.

Then in 69 minutes Reilly took a pass from Smith and fired a low left-foot shot into the right corner.

Falkirk’s misery was complete when Muirhead was sent off in 77 minutes.

Houston said: “We could have been four up in the first 20 minutes but credit to Saints for getting back in the game.

“We played as individuals, especially second half. We didn’t play as a team.”
