60 kids die at hospital TV’s Leah: My cancer drugs aren’t working

Former soap star remains upbeat after blow

Sixty children died at a hospital in India last week.

The BRD Medical College in Uttar Pradesh state said 34 babies died in the neo- natal intensive care unit, while 12 fatalities were caused by encephalitis.

They denied local reports that the deaths had been caused by a lack of oxygen supplies after a private firm withdrew equipment over unpaid bills.

Former soap star Leah Bracknell’s experimental cancer t r eatment has stopped working.

The actress revealed the heartbreaking news to fans online – but insists that she is remaining upbeat.

Leah, who is best known for her role as Zoe Tate in Emmerdale, was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in October last year.

She started raising funds to go to Germany for immunotherapy treatment unavailable in this country.

Leah later discovered her Chinese genes made her eligible for an NHS clinical trial of targeted biological therapy, which she began late last year.

But now the 53-year- old mum of two has been told that the treatment is no longer working.

In an update posted on Leah’s crowdfunding page, her partner Jez Hughes told supporters: “We have found out the drug she was on definitely isn’t working. So she has been off this for a while.”

Jez said they believed that alternative therapies, including infrared saunas and healing oils, had been working well for Leah – and thanked supporters for making it possible.

They wi l l now move forward with their previous plan of going to Germany for treatment.

Leah’s positive attitude has inspired thousands of people since her diagnosis and even after her setback she remains optimistic.

She wrote recently:“I choose that having cancer makes me bigger, not smal ler. I choose to celebrate LIFE.”
