Dalai Lama axes visit

The Dalai Lama has cancelled a visit to Botswana “due to exhaustion”.

A statement on the Tibetan spiritual leader’s website said he has written to the nation’s president expressing “profound regret”.

The 82-year-old was due to arrive in Botswana on Tuesday.

The statement said that “during the past few weeks, His Holiness has found that carrying out his activities has lef t him unusual ly tired”.

It added doctors have warned him against long journeys.
