Director I was run out of England

-

A Scottish film director says a row over 69p has convinced him the south of England is no longer a safe place to live and he’s heading back to Glasgow.

Award-winning documentary maker David Graham Scott, 55, is quitting Kent after a confrontation with a woman in the street.

The dad-of-one, originally from the Highlands, is fuming after Kent Police charged him with assaulting the female beggar in Rochester High Street.

The altercation came after he offered her 69p in loose change as he came out of a shop.

He said: “She smacked the side of my face and kicked and kicked at me.”

Following the incident, he was charged but police said no action would be taken against her.

The case against him has been dropped but he says he’s heading to Scotland.

While awaiting his court appearance, David – whose documentaries include WireBurners – was ordered not to contact the beggar or any other witnesses to the incident.

He felt “too scared” to go into the High Street in case he bumped into her, and eventually left the area in case he was arrested for breaching bail conditions.

He said: “I am a completely innocent man who was run out of Rochester by being put under restrictive bail conditions.

“I feel Glasgow is a safer place than Rochester.”
