Ray laughs off sinner Paul’s punch

The Dundee United boss watched McMullan receive his marching orders in 37 minutes for taking a swing at Queens full-back Shaun Rooney.

The game was finely balanced at that point af ter Scot t McDonald’s early opener for United had been cancelled out by Callum Fordyce.

But McKinnon could see the funny side after his league leaders dug deep to win through Scott Fraser’s 68th-minute winner

He said: “If it’s a red-card so be it. But Paul must be fighting at bantamweight or the lowest weight there is.

“He’s not seriously throwing punches at anybody, is he?

“It’s out of character if he has thrown a punch but the referee could have dealt with it earlier.

“Their guy was pulling him and pulling him and Paul’s still trying to get away so he gets frustrated.

“We showed real courage. It’s difficult to play for nearly 60 minutes with 10 men.”

McMullan set up the opener for McDonald who stuck out his knee to bundle home his cross.

But Fordyce equalised when he steered a left-foot shot past Harry Lewis from 10-yards.

McMullan’s red card seemed to tilt the game in Queens’ favour but sub Fraser put United back ahead with a low left-foot shot.

The Doonhamers then wasted great chances to level as Lewis made vital saves from Chris Kane and Jordan Marshall.

Gutted Queens boss Gary Naysmith said: “I’m frustrated and disappointed.

“We created a lot of chances against their 10 men but it just wasn’t to be.

“Whoever f inishes above United will win the league.”
