ROBBO: REF KILLED US

- Andrew McInnes

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson claimed ref Craig Thomson killed off chances of a comeback after his side were reduced to EIGHT in a 4-1 loss to Saints.

Keeper Trevor

Carson,Ca captain Carl McHugh andan full-back Charles Dunne allal received their marching ordersor in the second half.

Carson got a straight red for deliberatede handball outside theth box at 2-1, although it lookedlo marginal.

McHugh got two yellow cards and Dunne was penalised in the last minute for denying a goalscoring opportunity

Robinson said: “We were very much in the game at 2-1 and the turning point was the red card to Trevor.

“We dominated the game, while making individual errors for their goals, and that’s something we need to rectify. “I believed the linesman gave the red to the keeper. The new rule is they don’t have to put their flag up – they communicate via the headsets.

“It was the wrong call as the ball was on the line. He wasn’t outside the box. “As for Charles, from what we’ve seen from video footage, he didn’t even touch their player. He just moved out of the way. We’ ll talk about appealing the Carson and Dunne red cards. At this stage that’s very likely.

“The McHugh red card is the only one I haven’t seen back but if the ref is going to give a yellow, then a red, for anything, I can maybe see a point in that one. As for the other two…”

Robinson, whose team are without a point after two games, was also annoyed about the whistler’s decision- mak ing before Saints’ opener.

He said: “In the move that led to their first goal, there was a handball by Murray Davidson. He touches the ball but they got the free-kick.

“I can’t control decision making from the ref but I can make our defending better.

“The ref told me to calm down at one point. When your team’s doing well, dominating, and a wrong decision affects everything you’re going to do, you’re going to get frustrated.”
