Scully is perfect for Cove

-

Connor Scully’s clincher kept up Cove Rangers’ 100 per cent start to the league season and edged them two points clear at the top.

The winger set the seal on a fourth straight win as Cove beat Inverurie Locos 2-1.

Martin Laing edged them in front after 34 minutes but Neil Gauld levelled for Locos on the stroke of half-time.

But Scully emerged as the derby hero for Cove with a 63rd-minute finish.

Cove boss John Sheran said: “We’ve never had an easy game against Locos. There’s a lot of pride at stake and both sides showed that.

“Our passing was good without hurting them but we got the win in the end.”

Formartine suffered the first chink in their armour after drawing 4- 4 at home to underdogs Deveronvale.

Grant Noble and Dane Ballard both hit doubles for visiting Vale while Stuart Smith and Graeme Rodger netted for the Pitmedden side before Scott Barbour’s double saved a point.

With Rothes losing 4-2 at Fraserburgh, Cove were able to move clear at the top. A Gary Harris double was the highlight for the Broch.

Champs Buckie Thistle were far more impressive in a 5-1 win at Wick, with ex-Ross County striker Steven Ross netting twice.

Elsewhere, Brora eased to a 4- 0 win at Fort William, Alan Pollock’s double helped Forres to a 5-3 win at Keith, Scott Miller’s late winner gave Turriff United a 1-0 home win over Lossiemouth, Huntly won 2- 0 at Strathspey and Nairn and Clach drew 1-1.
