McCann: I’ll take sloppy Deefence to task

- Anthony Haggerty

Neil McCann insisted he’d batter his defenders until the penny dropped after insisting their mistakes were unacceptable.

The Dundee boss cut a frustrated figure as his side were left to rue a host of missed chances including a howler of a second-half penalty from Scott Allan.

He said: “Don’t mistake frustration for me not being angry as I am at the goals we have lost. They are very cheap and one was from a set-piece.

“The second goal tips us over as a coaching staff as we have worked very hard on that move and to eradicate the space that Boyd runs into.

“That space should not be there. It’s a superb finish but he should not be given the chance to do that.

“As a back four we have said to them that we will not accept that and we will batter them day in and day out until they surrender to us and it becomes second nature and they learn and they do not even think about it.

“We started the game well and had clear cut chances and didn’t take them. We have had five or six 100 per cent chances to score. They should be in the net – if you don’t take them you get nothing.

“Scott’s penalty miss summed up our day as we didn’t even hit the target but I can’t be too hard on them as they didn’t roll over or surrender.”
