United’s title bid in tatters

Formartine United’s title bid is already on the rocks after they suffered a shock defeat to Clachnacud­din.

The much- improved Inverness side came fron two goals down to run out 4-2 winners away to one of the Highland League’s supposedly strongest forces.

Archie Macphee and Scott Barbour had United cruising before Clach came racing back.

Michael Finnis tucked away a cool penalty and James Beeston levelled for the Lilywhites.

Ryan Mackintosh and Daniel MacLennan killed off United and Clach boss Iain Polworth said: “We went about it the right way after losing two sloppy goals. Nobody can begrudge us the win.”

Formartine assistant Jerry O’Driscoll admitted: “We star ted wel l and deserved to be two up, but their penalty was soft.”

Cove Rangers stayed top and climbed three points clear with second half goals from Jamie Masson and Mitch Megginson easing them to victory at Forres.

Buckie Thistle kept up their pursuit of Cove with Chris Angus banging in four goals in a 5-2 win at Keith.

Steven Mackay rescued a point for Brora against Fraserburg­h whilst Neil Gauld grabbed four for Inverurie Locos as they smashed six past Huntly.

Wick were held to a 1-1 draw with Turriff whilst Nairn County destroyed Lossiemout­h 6-2 and Rothes beat Deveronval­e 2- 0.
