City star facing probe after steward claims he was hit in chaotic finale
Sergio Aguero faces a police probe after it was alleged he hit a steward during the celebrations following Man City’s late winner at Bournemouth.
Sergio Aguero faces a police probe for allegedly striking a steward in the aftermath of Man City’s dramatic win.
The incident is alleged to have happened after City’s 97th minute winner when the striker fol lowed scorer Raheem Sterling into a melee of jubilant away fans.
Sterling picked up a second yellow card and the chaotic finale overshadowed a game which saw Bournemouth take the lead through Charl ie Daniels before Gabriel Jesus’ leveller.
The England winger’s second yellow card, from ref Mike Dean for his part in the celebrations, will mean he’s automatically banned from returning to former club Liverpool next month.
But Aguero could also face punishment after his clash with the steward.
Boss Pep Guardiola called for an explanation following Sterling’s dismissal. He said: “I would like somebody to call me to explain it. If you can’t celebrate with the fans the best solution is not to invite the fans. You can imagine how happy he is, how happy the fans are. “We won, If we had not won or lost I would not have made the argument but I would like someone to tell me that. “Teams who always have 65-70 percent possession always have the player sent off, perhaps someone can explain that to me one day.” He also admitted that despite equalising through Jesus, City struggled du r ing the game to find a way through a packed defence.
He added: “If you ask me my impression of the game I’m going to tell you they were better than us.
“But we kept going and always tried to play our way. In the end we found our goal.”
Bournemouth started their bid to pick up their first point of the season well as they dominated in the early stages.
They took the lead in spectacular fashion when Dan Gosling’s cross was headed away by Vincent Kompany only to fall into the path of Daniels.
Daniels then found the net with a half-volley from the edge of the area that went in off the underside of the bar to score just 13 minutes in.
And they then almost doubled their lead through veteran frontman Jermain Defoe,D but the striker saw his efforteff blocked.
Just eight minutes after BouB rnemouth ’ s goa l , however,h City found the breakthroughbr with their first shotsh on target after David SilvaSi had picked out Jesus.
In the second half they lookedlo to hold on but were deniedd at the death as Sterling’sSt effort deflected in off Andrew Surman.
Cherries boss Eddie Howie said:sa “I’m really pleased with theth players today. It was a doggeddo performance.”
