Every cloud has a silver lining.. even if the scampi’s a bit of a wallet-buster
In the summer, the Bieldside Inn must be perfectly set up for great balcony dining, with some fab sunny exposure.
Unfortunately, when we visited the well-decorated venue in the Aberdeen outskirts, we must have missed Scotland’s annual five minutes of decent weather and instead had to hole up inside, imagining how lovely their location feels in the outdoor heat.
But we were delighted to be welcomed into a very modern, well-appointed and swish bar restaurant which seemed like a lovely, spacious and open venue to play host to a family dinner.
It looks great and the very friendly staff did their best to compensate for the dreich weather outside with their sunny dispositions. But the clouds started to gatherg slightly at the prices on display when we che c k e d out the menu – £19 for scampi and chips was a bit of a fright.
With langoustine and rustic chips, it did sound the part but we were scared off by the cost and instead spread our interests around the rest of the menu.
Our dining options featured their gorgeous-looking burger, a crispy fish and chips and the sea bass, while the junior side of the Pub Spy detachment opted for macaroni cheese (a massive portion) and chicken goujons.
The food was fantastic – the kids hoovered up their selections – and the wide selection of drinks meant for a fantastic night, for all of us who were not driving at least.
The Bieldside is a lovely place with great staff but, with a total food bill for three adults and two kids of just over £ 60, it did feel a touch overpriced.
