To prevent the ageing process taking hold, looking after your skin must be your No1 priority.

You should start cleansing, toning and moisturising morning and night in your 20s. This daily regime, once started, should never stop.

Your moisturiser should always contain an SPF. As you get older, plumping moisturisers such as Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream and Dermalogica AGE smart help keep skin looking radiant. A monthly facial also does wonders.

Maintaining skin condition aside, the most important area to focus on when rolling back the years is the eye and eyebrow. It’s the most expressive area of the face and requires the most work.

The trick is to highlight the good bits of the eyelid and draw attention away from the wobbly bits. Start with a good primer and then it’s pretty much anything goes. Illuminating the inner corner of the eye can make it pop and staying away from glitter ensures wrinkly eyelids aren’t exposed.

Defining the eyebrow with a wet eyeshadow can give a shape to the face. Always remember to make the middle of the eyebrow darker than the outside. This creates a flattering ombre. Use a volumising mascara to accentuate lashes and you can look incredible at any age.

There is a myth that you should change the shade of foundation as you get older – you shouldn’t. Paling skin can be brightened up by adding bronzer or blusher, not by toning down your foundation.

Foundation should always be matched to the colour of your neck and chest, not your face.

The lip area can become thinner and more lined as the years progress. One of my top tips is to rub some eyeshadow primer round your lips so lipstick doesn’t bleed when applied.

When it comes to colour, my advice is to just go for it. The older you get, the more you should shine. I have no intention of ever getting rid of my bright red lipstick or illuminating eyeshadow.

As the years march on, some women can let themselves become invisible – don’t. Apart from the mannequin contouring that’s all the rage with teenagers this day, I believe it’s anything goes.

Never rein yourself in. You can look fabulous at any age.
