McGinn back and buzzing

-

Paul McGinn knew he was back in Scottish football the moment a cup was launched at him from the Rangers support.

But he loved every second after the misery of a year from hell at Chesterfield.

The former Dundee fullback’s registration came through in time for his debut for Patrick Thistle on Friday night after a redtape wrangle with the FA.

And the 26-year-old grinned: “It’s like I’d never been away. I was getting a bit of stick from the Rangers fans and had a cup launched at me but thankfully their aim was off.

“It feels good to be back playing though, even if my legs were cramping up near the end chasing the ball in the corner.

“At one point I was worried I’d be in limbo until January. That would sum up my luck. But because it was only an admin error I hoped the FA would be okay about it and they were in the end, thankfully.”

McGinn was impressed with his new side’s 2-2 draw with the Ibrox side though – and despite Thistle having just two points from 18, he doesn’t sense a team in trouble.

He said: “We didn’t play well until a spell in the second half when we had them on the ropes. But then we had the red card and it was a case of rolling up the sleeves, digging in.

“Graham Dorrans scored a brilliant goal, although we felt aggrieved because the throw-in in the build-up should have gone our way.

“At one point we thought we had them and their fans were getting on at them a bit. We were pushing for a third but Chris Erskine was apologetic for his red card and said it cost us the win but it didn’t. He was the one who stuck in the second.

“We hope we can kick on. It’s not relegation form the way we’re playing and we’re hoping that’s the start of a good run.”
