Get tight or Binos face axe

-

Stirling boss Dave MacKay has warned his league leaders some of them may be shown the door in January if they don’t improve defensively.

A double from Hearts loan kid Callum Morrison and a Darren Smith strike helped the Binos sink Annan 3-2 who found the target through Owen Moxon and Aiden Smith.

But M a cK a y said: “Defensively we still look like conceding a number of times and we have to work on that.

“If we don’t, come January we will need to sort it out one way or another.

“We need to stop giving away these cheap goals that are killing us. Sooner or later we are going to come up against teams who will punish us.

“The pleasing thing is we’re nowhere near top gear yet and we are five points clear but I didn’t enjoy watching that. It was poor.”

Moxon fired Annan in front after eight minutes. Three minutes later Smith pulled Binos level.

On the half hour Morrison pounced on an error by Annan keeper Jim Atkinson to slot into an empty net. The away side equalised in 61 minutes when Smith buried a rebound.

But Morrison grabbed the winner in 74 minutes, drilling a low drive into the far corner.

Annan boss Peter Murphy said: “We should have got more out of the game.”

Elgin assistant boss Gavin Price was relieved to see his team overcome a nervy second half to see off Montrose.

A week after chucking away a 2- 0 lead to lose at Berwick, City survived several scares when two up before sealing the points near the end. Price said: “We were looking a bit shaky.”

Bruce Anderson grabbed the opener then Brian Cameron steered home a penalty before sub Jamie Reid netted late on.

Cowdenbeath ended a 10-hour goal drought in their 1-1 draw at Clyde thanks to Harvey Swann’s controversial injury-time penalty.

Clyde had taken the lead through sub Smart Osadolor with 15 minutes left.

Mark McGuigan netted early and late on for Stenhousemuir as they saw off Berwick 3- 0, with Stenny’s other counter a Pat Scullion own goal.
