Singer Sharleen admits she fancied her fiance so much she stalked him for a year
The thing that shocked me most was that he’d asked my dad
Sharleen Spiteri has admitted stalking her fiance for a year before he asked her out.
The Texas singer said celebrity chef Bryn Williams didn’t take the hint when she kept dropping in to his restaurant Odette’s, in north London.
The couple are set to marry next year just months after she celebrates her 50th birthday.
Sharleen laughs at the lengths she went to get him to notice her. She said: “I happened to be in there with a mate for lunch and the food was mind-blowing.
“I’d seen Bryn on Great British Menu. “Basical ly I went back one night, got tipsy and ran into him on the stairs.
“He was stone-cold sober and I was very drunk.
“I thought ‘Ooh, I quite like you.’ I’d never have put myself out there.
“But it was that weird thing when you’ve had a couple of drinks and your mates egg you on, like, ‘Go for it!’
“And that was it. I say that, but basically I stalked him. It took a long time. Months, even a year, maybe. I think he thought I was a very friendly neighbour of the restaurant.
“Eventually I was like ‘ Wake up, wake up!’”
The couple have now been together for 10 years.
Bryn proposed to Sharleen by going down on one knee in the garden of their home in Wales in January.
But not before he asked Sharleen’s dad and her 15-year-old daughter Misty Kyd’s permission.
Sharleen said: “We were having a wander in the garden when he suddenly went down on one knee and said, ‘ Will you marry me?’
“I was gobsmacked. I had no idea he was going to do that, so I didn’t say anything. “I was, like, ‘ F***!’ “The thing that shocked me after I had said ‘ Yes’ was that he’d asked my dad.
“And he asked Misty before he asked me.
“My friends are so happy, they’re beside themselves.”
With a host of celebrity pals including Kate Moss and Madonna attending, another of her buddies Stella McCartney will be designing the wedding dress.
Sharleen said: “I tell you what, getting married at this age is very useful.
“Your mates do it all and you look fantastic.”
