‘Naive’ Accies Can-ed

- Alasdair Fraser

Martin Canning insists Accies have to put a halt to their criminal defending – or face a long struggle for survival.

The Hamilton gaffer was dismayed as his team tossed away yet another lead.

It’s the fourth game in a row when they have been ahead but they haven’t managed a point in any.

Canning says his men were naive – and he wants more from the likes of experienced Frenchman Xavier Tomas.

Canning said: “That seems to be the story of the last five or six weeks.

“We seem to find a way to lose games – and it’s a poor place to be. That’s bugging me but we’re a little bit naive.

“We’ve got young players just making their way in the game and every time they switch off and make a mistake we seem to be get punished.

“The last goal was just criminal.

“To be so exposed at the back is scary.

“There’s no organisation, no communication and no-one taking charge.

“We’ve scored in every game except against Aberdeen – that tells you we need to shut the back door.

“But the main thing for me is the leadership and organisation.

“Xavier maybe needs to lend more of a hand than he has done.

“Ryan Fulton, Scott McMann and Alex Gogic did well but they’re making wee errors.

“It’s not as if we’re getting battered from pillar to post. We’re comfortable in the game then it’s that bit of naivety that costs us.”
