Jamieson ready for bottle battle to land big prize

-

Scott Jamieson hopes to keep the nerves and chasing pack at bay to land the biggest title of his career today after taking a one-shot lead in the Nedbank Challenge.

The Glaswegian sizzled at Sun City in South Africa with a bogey-free third-round 67 to top the board at eight under.

Frenchman Victor Dubuisson is closest challenger after a one-under 71 while Martin Kaymer (69) and home favourite Branden Grace (68) are tied third on five under.

Jamieson’s only Euro Tour win came in 2013 at the rain-shortened Nelson Mandela Championship.

But bagging a cheque for £940,000 plus a first Rolex Series trophy would dwarf that achievement and boost his chances of making next year’s Ryder Cup team. The Scot, who turns 34 this month, said: “I was much better on the greens today than the first couple of days.

“It’s exciting. I’m in a good position.

“There’s still a long way to go but if I do what I did today I’ll be in with a good shout.

“It would be the biggest moment of my career, I’ll be well aware of that tomorrow. I need to see if I can step up to the challenge.”

Englishman Tommy Fleetwood would take the Race to Dubai title with a win today but he is six shots off the lead after a 67.

David Drysdale is best of the other Scots after a 69 left him two under. Richie Ramsay (72) is one under while Marc Warren’s 75 dropped him to six over and Stephen Gallacher (74) sits seven over.
