Furious Mackay’s spot sick

-

Stirling boss Dave Mackay blasted ref Greg Aitken as his league leaders were held to a 1-1 draw against Clyde.

The Binos took the lead with 10 minutes left thanks to Darren Smith but a soft penalty decision by the ropey ref saw Albion drop points as David Goodwillie netted in the dying seconds at Broadwood.

Mackay raged: “It was never a penalty. Not a single player appealed for it.

“The referee’s bottled it. It’s as simple as that.”

However, Mackay conceded Clyde deserved their point on the balance of play.

And Bully Wee interim boss Tony McNal ly said: “We deserved the win but we will take the point.”

Stenhousemuir gaffer Brown Ferguson was delighted after his team edged a five- goal thriller at Peterhead.

Stenny went in front after 13 minutes through Mark McGuigan but Jack Leitch equalised just after half-time with a low shot.

Mick Dunlop restored the Warriors’ lead but Jason Brown equalised for a second time before McGuigan slotted home the penalty winner. Ferguson said: “It was a good and entertaining match for the supporters but I thought we deserved to shade it. I really pleased the boys came back in a positive manner.”

Blue Toon boss Jim McInally hit out at his side’s defending.

He said: “When you defend as poorly as we did, you are always likely to lose.”

Cowdenbeath remain bottom of the table after losing 3-1 at home to Elgin.

A double f rom Brian Cameron and a curling effort from Thomas Reilly secured all three points for Gavin Price’s men.

Price said: “Towards the end of the first half it was some of the best football I have seen us play this season.”

Annan Athletic’s Steven Swinglehurst had an eventful afternoon as his side drew 1-1 at Montrose.

Swinglehurst cancelled out Chris Templeman’s opener for the Gable Endies on the hour mark but was then sent off for a second bookable offence.

Berwick and Edinburgh City took a point apiece from a 1-1 draw at Shielfield.
