I’M LOUISING MYSELF AS CABARET ALTER EGO SALLY

- Steve Hendry

Louise Redknapp has revealed she is relishing shedding her inhibitions to star in the musical Cabaret.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star is heading to Edinburgh this week playing Sally Bowles, a role which won Liza Minnelli an Oscar in 1973.

Louise, 43, whose marriage to footballer-turned-pundit Jamie Redknapp has come under scrutiny after she moved out of their family home, jumped at the chance to play someone completely different to herself.

She said: “Sally is a big character, she’s very flamboyant. For me, to play that takes a lot of work because I’m not naturally the person who pushes herself to the front of a line.

“I’ll always hover back and take my time but she fully believes in herself and goes completely over the top.” However, the former Eternal singer – mother to Beau, nine, and Charley, 13 – says there are parts of Sally’s character she can relate to.

She said: “I think lots of women will relate to how she puts on a brave face, even when she’s terribly wounded and insecure and unsure.

“There are definitely parts of her I can relate to – just as a woman and how we try to survive and do the best we can with what we’re given.”

Cabaret, which is at the Edinburgh Playhouse from November 14 to 18, also stars Will Young as the notorious Emcee, who performs nightly at the infamous Kit Kat Klub in the wild Berlin of 1931.
