Suppers shunned as curry is hotter

-

Britain’s favourite food is now a curry or a Chinese, a new lifestyle survey has revealed.

And while the traditional cup of tea is still holding on to its top brew spot, coffee is catching up fast – and is now No1 in Scotland and the north of England.

In another upset, most Brits would opt for a bottle of wine over a pint of beer – except for the Welsh and Londoners.

Researchers asked 24,000 adults across the UK to choose their favourite soaps, food, hot drinks and other everyday things.

EastEnders loses out to Corrie as Britain’s favourite soap and fish suppers are now second best to Asian food as our No1 choice at the takeaway.

Meanwhi le , tomato ketchup beats mayonnaise and a cosy night in is more popular than a wild night out, the study found.

Kirsten Bolton, of holiday homes firm Willerby, who commissioned the survey, says the research highlights the public’s changing tastes and attitudes in many facets of life.

She said: “Who would have imagined 20 years ago that coffee could compete wi th t ea a s Br i t a in’s favourite hot drink?

“Or that mayonnaise could soon overtake tomato sauce as Britain’s favourite condiment?

“Brits are renowned around the world for their love of tea, a pint and a good chippy.

“But as the research shows, tastes are starting to slowly change.”
