DUNDEE UTD v FALKIRK HE’S HARRY PLOTTER

United loan can help Lewis reach top

- Euan McArthur

Kid keeper Harry Lewis insists he feels treasured at Dundee United and cherishes being in constant contact with Southampton.

The English ace is loving life at Tannadice where he has stood out since moving north in a season-long deal in the summer.

And the youngster admits being made to feel so wanted is the reason why his move has been such a success.

Lewis said: “Dave Watson, the Saints goalkeeping coach, is keeping an eye on me. He rings me every week.

“Kelvin Davis also does a lot with the lads who go out on loan. He rings me too.

“It’s more personal with him whereas Dave is more the goal-keeping side.

“Here at United, Darren Taylor went down to Southampton on Tuesday just to keep in touch.

“I’m lucky to be No.1 at a club like Dundee United.

“I wanted to go out on loan but because I was so far away I was worried that I might fall off the face of the earth.

“But they’ve not forgotten me. They still want to know how I’m getting on.”

Lewis rates Watson highly and reckons working with the coach will only help him realise his potential.

He added: “It’s intense when I speak to Dave. He’s very analytical.

“We’ll do a debrief for 20 minutes after every game.

“Anything which I’ve done in my game, he’ll look at. He’s keen and knows everything you need to know about goalkeeping.

“It’s great to have someone to chat to when I come off the pitch. That’s what I need at my age.

“He brought me to Southampton and was England’s goalkeeping coach at the time.

“In my opinion, he’s the best goalkeeping coach in the country if not the world.

“To have a guy like that helping me gives me belief.”

Lewis is enjoying working under new United boss Csaba Laszlo after the depar ture of Ray McKinnon.

And the kid believes seeing a change in manager will help him in the future.

He said: “At f irst- team level, this is my first change in manager.

“At Southampton I’ve been through Koeman, Puel and Pellegrino without actually being in the first-team.

“The guys at Southampton said it will happen at points in my career and it’s great that it has happened so early in my career.

“It ’ s rare to have a boss for years now.”
