Puel: Red-hot City are slickest side in Europe just now

-

Leicester boss Claude Puel hailed Manchester City as the best side in Europe after they continued their unbeaten march towards the Premier League trophy.

Pep Guardiola’s men dumped the Foxes thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne.

And Puel said: “They are the best team in Europe.

“The defeat is a pity because we did well at times.

“The goals when they came were tough for us because then Manchester City can keep the ball well and make it very difficult.”

But Puel insisted his side could have ended City’s run had Vincent Kompany seen red for an early trip on Jamie Vardy as he ran through.

The Frenchman said: “He was with Jamie as the last player and the other defender can’t come back as Jamie’s

quick. Things like this have an effect on the game.”

Kompany was back after being sidelined since the end of August with a calf injury.

But Guardiola will have another stopper on the sidelines after John Stones picked up a hamstring problem yesterday.

The City boss said: “He will be out for a long time, four to six weeks.

“It will be tough because the calendar is demanding.”

City took the lead with a well-worked Jesus goal.

Leicester defender Harry Maguire had a shot cleared off the line before star man De Bruyne sealed victory with a screamer.

Guardiola said: “Our good rhythm has continued.”
