So happy I got sent back from Coventry

what ifs. I took a decision and I don’t regret it. I couldn’t have envisaged how it panned out at Coventry.

“But to have gone through that experience was a huge learning curve.

“I never thought I’d get relegated with any club. It was a difficult patch of my career. Hopefully it’s the only one.

“I might not see it right now but down the line, I’ll probably realise that it made me a better person.”

Some of the Sky Blues supporters’ protests included throwing tennis balls and even plastic pigs on to the pitch in a bid to get games halted.

Turnbull said: “The circumstances at Coventry were difficult for the players and tough to play in.

“There were protests almost every week.

“When I signed for Coventry, it was for Tony Mowbray. But when he left the club after 10 or 11 games, it was so disappointing for me.

“That was hard to take but I had to get on with it. We had four managers in one season at Coventry so that’s not an ideal scenario.

“Obviously relegation isn’t nice on anyone’s CV but it has gone now and I have to look forward in my career.

“This was about getting away from that disappointment.”

And so far, the Englishman is loving life north of the border. Despite Thistle’s lack of points, Turnbull has looked the part at the back and said: “This was a big move for me.

“It was a great opportunity for me to experience the Scottish league, play against some good teams and be involved in huge matches.

“There were opportunities for me in England. But once I spoke to the manager, that made my decision for me straight away.

“Archibald is a young gaffer, he played in my position and will help me progress.

“So far, Partick Thistle has been a breath of fresh air.”
